Volunteering

People volunteer for all sorts of reasons. They might want to meet new people who share their interests, or get to know their local community. They might be driven by their own values or beliefs.

Some want to develop or use particular skills but most want to help others and make a difference.

Whatever your motivation for volunteering, we will work with you to identify the opportunities that can help you realise it and achieve your goals.

What kind of roles do we have available?

Volunteer Befriender

Our volunteer befrienders support our tenants in their home or out in the community. They might spend their time going for a drink in a local café, batch cooking or baking or going shopping.

This role would suit somebody who likes working one to one with people, who enjoys lots of different activities and has an interest in working with people with learning disabilities or autism.

Group Activities Volunteer

Our activities volunteers support the staff at our monthly coffee and chat sessions where we invite the tenants to join in activities such as board games, arts and crafts and anything that they want to have a go at!

This role would suit somebody who likes to work as part of a team, enjoys being indoors or
outdoors and has a lot of energy. Our sessions give our tenants the opportunity to meet with each other in an informal and fun environment.

Gardening Volunteer

Our gardening volunteers help our tenants to run the gardening club and look after one of our gardens. They share their knowledge and skills through planting, pruning and other gardening tasks. They are also supported by our own gardener.

This role would suit somebody with an interest in gardening, a love of the outdoors and an interest in working with people with autism and learning difficulties. This is a great opportunity to share gardening skills and have a positive effect within the community.

What are we looking for in a Volunteer?

We are looking for people who are:

  • Respectful, empathetic, positive, and dependable
  • Committed to empowering the people we support to make their own choices about how they live
  • Enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of others
  • Willing to complete training and attend regular volunteer check ins
