Fairoak Housing Association supports people with learning disabilities and autism across Cumbria and the North East.
We have a wide range of accommodation options to meet the needs of our customers from independent living flats, to shared houses with 24-hour support staff and adult care homes.
We have a total of 26 schemes providing accommodation for over 100 adults with learning disabilities and autism.
In recent times many of our tenants have had their support packages reduced. This can lead to feelings of loneliness and social isolation. To help combat this we launched Friends of Fairoak to deliver events and activities and to provide volunteer opportunities.
What are we looking for in a Volunteer?
We are looking for people who are:
- Respectful, empathetic, positive, and dependable
- Committed to empowering the people we support to make their own choices about how they live
- Enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of others
- Willing to complete training and attend regular volunteer check ins
Become a Friend of Fairoak and help make this possible!
What kind of roles do we have available?
Most of our volunteers are befrienders and are paired with somebody we support to offer them company and friendship. We also have volunteers who help us run activities such as gardening and events that range from sports to music to the arts.
If you have a special skill that you’d like to share, we want to hear about it!
