On Thursday 1st June, Fairoak Housing and Support Officer Matthew Davidson attended the Fulfilling Lives Forum event at New College Durham with three of our Fairoak Owls representative’s, Kirsty, Peter and Ruth.
The event was very well attended by visitors as well as the many organisations who were there exhibiting their services and providing information, advice, activities and the chance to share views.
“Fulfilling Lives proved to be a wonderful networking event with over 70 stalls covering subjects such as social activities, health information, advice, staying safe and a carer’s zone.” Matthew tells us, “It really was a a day packed full of information for people with learning disabilities, their carer’s and families.”
The event is designed for people with learning disabilities and their carers can find out about everything from health and training to social activities and holidays at a regular get together. “I would very much recommend it to anyone looking for an event where they can find out so much about the different types of support available as well as engaging with people from across the north of the UK and share their stories and experiences.”
The event also featured the County Durham Adult Learning Disabilities Engagement Forum, where people with learning disabilities and their carers can take part in information sessions and discussions focused on a number of current topics.
A similar event is due to be taking place in October this year, dates and venue still to be confirmed.
